Each year Avero participates in the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research, a 5K run in Central Park that supports research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Thousands of dedicated New York City runners showed up for this year’s event, held on a gorgeous fall morning. Terry Fox is especially close to Avero’s heart because long-time friend and client Four Seasons has generously supported the organization for several decades now.
At just 18 years old, Canadian resident Terry Fox learned that his right leg needed to be amputated above the knee due to bone cancer. Terry was convinced that a cure for cancer could be found through more research, so he decided to run 6,000+ miles across Canada to raise money. Terry ran 26 miles per day for 143 days in 1980, and Four Seasons donated accommodations at all of his stops along the way. Terry eventually had to end the run due to the cancer spreading to his lungs, and he unfortunately passed away on June 28, 1981, one month shy of his 23rd birthday.
Since Terry’s death, thousands of runs have been held in his name throughout the world to raise funds for cancer research. Avero looks forward to supporting Four Seasons and the New York Terry Fox Run for many years to come.
