Working at a restaurant software company doesn’t always have to be about data, facts, figures and analytics. Avero employees work hard every day in our mission to help restaurateurs succeed, but we also like to kick back, have fun and share in our clients’ passion for food and beverage. Fortunately, we have amazing relationships with some of the titans of the industry. Enter: Paul Grieco.
Paul Grieco is a partner at Restaurant Hearth in the East Village and Terroir wine bars. He has become known for putting together fearlessly independent wine lists that serve as part wine and spirits, part manifesto and part education. Off-the-beaten path wines dominate his lists, he was an early adoptor of wines on tap, and he’s so convinced of the virtues of sherry that he gives away free glasses before 7 p.m. at Terroir. He’s also the mastermind behind Summer of Riesling, a concept that has grown into a national phenomenon with restaurants across the country planning special events and adding Riesling selections by the glass to their menus throughout the summer months.
Paul visited the Avero New York offices one recent afternoon to give our employees a very special Riesling education. He shared his good humor and strong viewpoints, and educated and encouraged us to join him in his love affair with what he argues is the world’s greatest grape. He exposed us to the intricacies and multiplicity of styles of Riesling, and in classic Paul Grieco fashion helped us understand that all Rieslings are not sweet.
